One of my favourite pieces of direct mail from the late '90s was called Blood On The Streets. It promoted Bill Bonner's stock market tipping newsletters of the time. It explained that the best time to sell stocks was when society felt at the peak of happiness and 'stability', when everything was booming... and how the best time to buy and get stuck into the financial markets was when chaos and confusion reigned and ordinary investors were
running for cover.
Today, there's a sort of blood on the streets scenario. At least, in western financial terms, there's metaphorical blood anyway... failed banks, burst bubbles, repossessions, unemployment and political meltdown. And of course, we're now bombarded by the big fat word RECESSION.
The recession sees the return of the sort of contrarian investor who lapped up Blood on the Streets. They've been waiting since the beginning of the bull market in 2003 to make their move as soon as another financial disaster struck.
